My next silent film booking is part of the Autumn Concert season at St Martin’s in Worcester on 24th November. I will be accompanying the Charlie Chaplin short, Behind the Screen, talking about silent cinema music, and playing for Buster Keaton’s Steamboat Bill Junior.
I was asked by Emma Harding and Sasha Yevtushenko of Radio 4 Drama to arrange contemporary pop songs in an 1895 drawing-room style for piano and vocal. The characters of The Importance of Being Earnest and An Ideal Husband sing songs appropriate to themselves. I also provided incidental music. To be broadcast around Christmas – dates to follow.
I was delighted to be asked to share the accompaniment of four rarely-seen films at Lambeth’s wonderful cinema museum. Last night I played for The Chronicles of the Grey House and a French film – a Breton fishing village love story.
