Barry and me

Barry’s show at Horsham last Thursday (22nd) was cancelled as he slipped on the pavement at Swiss Cottage the day before and ended up in hospital with a fractured pelvis.

For the Clue recording at Llandudno today (Monday 26th) he’ll be replaced by Richard Osman. Richard has done the show before and is very good value,  but Baz will of course be much missed. It also means that for these two recordings only Tim Brooke-Taylor and I will represent more or less the original crew. (I joined in 1975.)
One benefit from this accident: Barry’s been in hospital since last Thursday and hasn’t missed his cigarettes…uncanny.

Charlie Chaplin & Buster Keaton

Last Sunday – 17th November – I was one of four pianists accompanying silent films from or based on WW1. I found myself with a particularly challenging set of short films where narrative wasn’t always clear. But Chaplin’s short about war bonds (his attempt to spur the US into joining the Allies, as he did again in ‘The Great Dictator’ in 1940) was a fine piece, wittily constructed and fun to play for.
